12.01.2007 Scotty Newlands Sings the Anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs - without a uniform on!

Go Leafs Go!

It was a great game and I felt so honoured to be singing the anthem as "Scotty Newlands". It was nice to be out there representing myself for the first time. My thanks to everyone in the Leafs administration who made this possible. I think this will be the last performance I have before the New Year. It was great to go out of 2007 with a bang!

Happy holidays to all and I'll see you in 2008!!!

Well, it's a fastball, but I'm glad to do it. I have just been contacted by the Leafs personally to sing the anthems for this Saturday's game between Toronto and Pittsburgh. They want Scotty Newlands" - NOT Private Newlands. I actually get to wear civi's. I'll have to figure out my wardrobe. This feels a bit weird - but it's great all the same. I'm looking forward to doing this - and this time, It's just me. No pressure!!!

Tune in and see it - or better yet - c'mon down to the ACC!

Hope to see you there!

10.11.2007 Scotty Newlands Sings the Anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs

What can I say about Saturday night's events? Incredibly moving. From the Veteran's reading of Flander's Fields to the playing of Amazing grace on the bagpipes - it was an honour to take part in the ceremony. Thank you again to the brave men and women who risk their lives every day. I am humbled by their actions. My thanks to my new friend who posted the opening ceremonies on You Tube. You're thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

Until next time...

Well, it's that time again. I have been asked to sing the Anthems for the Toronto Maple Leafs game on the 10th of November for this year's Rememberance Day ceremony. As always, it is an honour to be asked to perform during this truly important time for the CF. The Maple Leafs will be facing off against the New York Rangers.

It should be a great match.

Hope to see you at the game!

10.06.2007 Scotty Newlands to Sing National Anthems at Argos Game

Well, it was a great game for the Argos and it was good to see the CF support both on the field and in the stands. Thanks again to those people who gave me such nice comments after the opening ceremonies. As always, I'm proud to fulfill the task when called upon.

Thanks again to everyone!

I have been asked to sing the anthem at the Toronto Argonauts game at the Rogers Centre for another CF Appreciation Game. The Argos square off against the Edmonton Eskimos. Help us cheer on out hometown team and show your support for the CF at the same time.

Hope to see you there!

08.07.2007 Scotty Newlands to Sing National Anthems at Steelback Grand Prix

Well, it was an incredible experience to perform the anthems on the Start/Finish line at the Steelback GP. There was so much support from the CF and the Steelback crew - it was great! It's too bad that the weather didn't co-operate for the races - but mother nature is a force to be reckoned with! The drivers did their best with what they were given and drove the incredibly slick track at amazing speeds despite the intollerable conditions! All in all, it was a great day and I was honoured to be a part of it.

Thanks to those who came to see me!

Until next time...

Well, it's official, I've been asked to sing the National Anthem at the Steelback Grand Prix (formerly the Toronto Molson Indy). I will be taking part in a combined Military Ceremonial Party. Being a race fan for many years, I am really looking forward to this event! Here's hoping for a great weather and a fantastic race!

Hope to see you there!

02.06.2007 Scotty Newlands to Sing National Anthems at Rogers Centre

Hey there! Thanks to everyone who came to the game. It was really nice to see the same support as last year for this occasion - both military and civilian! As always, it was a true honour to perform the anthems in full dress uniform and I am very thankful to the Blue Jays Association and the Cdn Forces for allowing me this great opportunity yet again.

Thank you all!

For the 2nd year in a row, I have been chosen as the Canadian Forces representative to sing the Canadian and American National Anthems at the Blue Jays game held at the Rogers Centre on the afternoon of June 2, 2007. This is in support of the annual Canadian Forces Appreciation Day as a way to honour our troops past and present who protect the country and help those people in other nations against oppression and terrorism in the world.

I will again be part of the opening ceremonies, which include presentations to deserving military personnel as well as a full flag party. I am happy to be taking part in this event again. It is my hope that you can make it out to this game - enjoy a great day of baseball and support our troops all at the same time!

The Toronto Blue Jays will face off against the Chicago White Sox in their 2nd of 3 consecutive games.

Hope to see you there!

24.05.2007/10.06.2007 "Showboat" - The Musical

Well, it was a great run with a fantastic cast! I met a few new people who I was lucky enough to share this experience with. I had a really fun time playing the comical roles of the Backwoodsman and of course the obnoxious drunk!

Thanks to everyone who I was able to work with this past season - it was a great time!

Time for another fantastic show by the Civic Light Opera Company! This time, it's the Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein classic Showboat. Based on a 1926 novel of the same title, Showboat is usually considered to be the first true American "musical play". There is generally two catergories of musicals: those before Showboat and those after Showboat. It deals with the serious issue of miscegenation as it portrays the illegal marriage of two of the actors who live as a married couple upon the Showboat. As the vessel travels the Mississippi, a gentleman named Gaylord Ravenal comes aboard the boat in search of lodging for the evening. What he gets, is the chance to perform as a juvenile male lead. He also ends up meeting the love of his life - the daughter of the captain of the boat: Magnolia Hawks. This is without a doubt one of the greatest pieces of musical theatre. I am playing a number of ensemble characters. It's going to be a great show.

To the right, is a link to the promotional poster for the show. Feel free to print it out for your own enjoyment and use.

This show runs from May 24th to the 1oth of June. Tickets can be purchased online for your convenience. This show is sure to be a great production. I hope you can make it out!

Hope to see you there!

13.01.2007 Scotty Newlands Sings the Anthem for the Toronto Maple Leafs

I have been asked to sing the anthem again for the Toronto Maple Leafs game against the Vancouver Canucks on the 13th of January. I will be accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble comprised of the Cdn Forces Central Band.

This should be a great event and just like the others, I am honoured to do this for the Cdn Forces.

Hope to see you at the game!

09.01.2007 Scotty Newlands Sings the Anthem at United Way Charity Luncheon

Because of the military's involvement with the United Way of Greater Toronto, certain members have been invited to a luncheon to be held downtown. I have been asked to do the honour of singing the national anthem for the event.

The United Way is a great organization - dedicated to helping those in need. Because of their involvement in the city, many people who would not have the opportunity to get their life back on track and help to support themselves are able to do so and live in dignity.

Give generously when the opportunity presents itself!

5-7.01.2007 Scotty Newlands Sings the Anthem at the International Cycle Show

As a continuation of the Canadian Forces community involvement, there is going to be a display for the Mike McTeague Wounded Warrior Fund at the International Motorcycle Show in January. I have been asked to sing the national anthem at the event.

This event draws hundereds of people every year and it will be nice to have a military presence. It is always an honour to represent the Cdn Forces at events and this one should be great!

Hope to see you there!
